My husband and I just started Nutrisystem. We talked about it for a month before deciding to order and I have to say, We have no regrets. I am pre-diabetic and I am significantly overweight. My husband only needs to lose a few pounds but everyone needs a diet buddy! After scrolling through bank statements we realized that we would actually save money by ordering for the both of us. I think a huge misconception that I have seen on other review sites is that if someone is overweight then ,obviously, they are lazy. In my case working extremely long hours as a nurse has taken its toll. I never feel like cooking after 12 hour shifts in a psychiatric ward. It was so easy to grab something on the way home from work. My husband also works 12 hour shifts as a supervisor and my youngest is also a nurse working 12 hour shifts. Once we get home we crash and burn. On days off we are very active. We kayak, ride bikes, walk and work outside nonstop. It’s so convenient to come home and have food that’s ready to go and good for us. I have already lost weight and feel great! My weight has been an issue for years but was compounded when my Dad passed away. All I wanted to do was eat. I’m trying to avoid the same issues he dealt with for the majority of his life. He was diabetic and had heart disease. I think every diet has pros and cons but when you start factoring in heart problems and diabetes then it’s a no-brainer. Also check nutrition facts for what you normally eat and I would guarantee that the sodium and preservatives in Nutrisystem aren’t nearly as bad as most things that we eat.
If you live with other people, this won’t be a big deal at all—you’re going to have this stuff around anyway. That’s sort of what I did. I grocery shopped for our house at about half the amount I used to, making sure there was some fruit, veggies, and almond milk available for me to use. I actually skipped some of the additions to meals, because I found it easier to just eat the prepared meal. For me, it was enough food—especially for lunch. That freed me up to have an occasional drink, diet soda, half a bagel, or snack at a party.
Losing weight is not rocket science, as Nutrisystem would have you believe. You don’t need them to cook your meals weeks or months prior. Just start adding healthy, fesh foods to your regular diet and ween yourself off of heavy foods that you’ll find at restaurants. This way your body is getting what it really wants needs, and you aren’t relying on a corporation to provide 100% of your food.
Bloating is a sign and symptom of gas in the stomach or GI tract. Certain foods or health problems like constipation may cause it. Bacteria and certain foods like lactose can cause it. Learn the symptoms and causes of bloating to feel more healthy.
I always thought, if I ever became rich and had the money to spare, I’d try out one of these food delivery systems in a heartbeat. Like Lynda, I love that everything is planned out already…there is no calorie counting or anything involved. Plus no cooking is involved, so it’s perfect for people with busy lifestyles. It seems like it would be easier to stick to a plan if all you can eat is already provided for you. To make it easier to follow, I wouldn’t keep any other food in the house except for the fruits and vegetables needed to supplement the food provided.
Read my comment to Lucy about gaining muscle through exercise–it will go someways to explaining things. You didn’t say if you’ve lost any inches since 8/1. Could be your a little slimmer without any actual pounds lost. Other people tend to notice before you do, by the way. Keep going and keep your goal firmly fixed in your thoughts.
I joined the Nutrisystem men’s basic plan because I really needed to lose weight. I had tried losing weight on my own a few times but it was too hard to count calories and weigh out all of my food (what a time sucker!). I always got discouraged about losing the weight.
Nutrisystem is a weight loss plan that takes the guesswork out of figuring what you can eat and when. It eliminates calorie counting, keeping track of carbs, and even searching for point values to stay under an allotted amount. It also gets rid of having to figure out what the proper proportions for your plate are at each meal and at snack time. Like many other diet plans, you are still restricted to a certain diet and are not supposed to eat whatever you desire.
Another key finding was that the addition of low intensity resistance exercise to a hypocaloric diet can preserve lean mass. The researchers believe they have demonstrated this for the first time. The researchers also confirm the potential therapeutic value of this form of exercise in obese individuals who are unable or unwilling to perform high intensity resistance exercise therapy. Maintaining muscle mass and strength is another import health goal in older women.
The big takeaway here: Pick a plan that fits your budget and dietary needs (they have specialty plans for vegetarians and diabetics), and know that ALL of their plans are going to help you lose weight when used correctly.
The website FAQ admits that alcohol is detrimental to any weight loss goal. Alcoholic drinks are extremely high in calories and fat, sodium and cholesterol. The system says that you should limit your use of alcohol if you want to optimize your results on the program. Nutrisystem also says that alcoholic intake may be a bit more lenient in the Transition and Maintenance parts of the program.
Nutrisystem recommends that clients follow the directions included in every meal plan. However, most of the plans include flex meals, which are open meals that are created solely by the client. The program also has some guidelines for these flex plans such as ingredients to stay away from.
The diet plans include two additional snacks you can eat during the day between meals to help if you feel hungry between meals. As long as you stick to just them and don’t go sneaking a pack of potato chips (when you think no one is looking), you will lose weight with this program. That is what you can expect if you hold up your end of the bargain.

Hey that’s really great news Shana. I’m really stoked when folks leave comments here that are so positive and sharing their success. You’re proof that this diet really does wok when you are determined and stubborn enough to stick with it no matter what. Good luck with your second month and hitting that target!
Gas your way with the noontime whether you’re eating at your desk, ordering something on-the-go or taking time out to unwind. Just how about a burger, protein bar, grilled chicken sandwich, pizza, southwest fiesta melt, tuna salad, four cheese melt or spicy kung pao noodles. A couple of meals brand-new to the lunch menu are turkey casserole melt, NEW! Spinach and also cheese pretzel melt as well as creamy beef alfredo.
The food was completely awful. I had horrible stomach cramps and the snacks were overly salty. Too much soy (soy can change estrogen levels in women). Customer service was a joke. I do not recommend this diet at all. Save your money and buy locally grown fresh food.
You can get a plan customized for vegetarians, men, women, or diabetics. I just did the regular women’s plan; some months I did the frozen meals, and some months not. I found both of them to be just fine.
