As for the Nutrisystem diet, I can’t praise it highly enough for getting folks to drop their weight especially when, like you, they’re determined to see it through and reach the goals they set for themselves. I have found again and again that when people have goals imposed upon them, they rarely stick it out, but when they set their own goals, it’s a totally different story and successes are the norm rather than the exception!
I soberly watched my friends enjoy limitless flows of beer and food. While entertaining to watch — similar to monkeys chasing each other at the zoo — it didn’t make for a delightful evening. According to Google Maps, I walked about two miles home that night from the bar for my daily exercise.
I started Nutrisystem right before the holidays, and I can’t believe how well it worked. I knew that waiting until the New Year to start the Women’s Basic Plan wasn’t going to work because I could not wait one more day to try and start losing weight. So, I ordered my food on the Basic Plan and scheduled my “free days” for Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. I still lost weight! Incredible! I made sure to that there weren’t going to be a lot of leftovers so that I could go back to my Nutrisystem meals the day after the holidays without being tempted by the fatty holiday foods.
Some nights (after a day of strict Nutrisystem foods) are very tough with gas, cramping stomach and the funny part is that I ate a lot of fruit and veggies prior to this and the only real things I have given up are choclate and wine. Maybe I am just not used to processed food or sodium????
After that, you make a few key decisions, the most difficult of which may be “breakfast burrito or Italian herb flatbread pizza?” and “red velvet whoopee pie or thin mint crisp bar?” Just wait for the breakfasts, lunches, dinners and desserts to show up at your doorstep, then dig in. You can’t completely avoid the supermarket, though. You’ll have to swing by to pick up the mandatory fruits, veggies, protein and dairy products of your liking to supplement Nutrisystem’s packaged meals. A glossy pamphlet tells you how much and when to add your grocery items. Depending on your plan – there are gender-specific tracks for adults, seniors, diabetics and vegetarians – you’ll eat five to six times a day. The program can also be customized for those needing a lower sodium (about 1,500 mg/day) level.
My weight loss stalled for a couple weeks. I was warned this could happen but I was still a little discouraged. I called a Nutrisystem counselor again. They are always so helpful. They suggested I change things up a bit. “Try swapping your dinners for lunch and lunches for dinners”. They said. The also advised me to eat more. “ Maybe add another 100 calories to your day” they suggested. I was also advised to make sure I drink enough water. So I did. My weight loss took off again and the pounds started dropping again. Who knew that more is sometimes less?
I’ve been on NS for a month now and have had mixed results. Due to mobility issues, I get little exercise and can’t check my weight, but I initially liked the taste of most of the dishes and adapted to the smaller portions easily.
“I dove head first into this diet, only breaking from it once, and briefly, to celebrate at a birthday party which I helped plan. In total, I lost 13 pounds. In a 28-day period, that’s fantastic and it has felt great having people ask me if I’ve lost weight,” Enoch reported at the end of the 28 days.
After 8 weeks I have only lost ten pounds but several inches which ain’t a bad thing. Called nutrient emus about not dropping pounds and they say I am eating too little? checked my calories and they were right! Should have been around 1500 and was closer to 950-1000 per day. Easy to do because guys like me won’t read the instructions. Hoping to get myself eating to burn fat instead of storing.
There is a need for an economical system like this, but one that offers healthy food and that actually does offer low glycemic alternatives. I am not aware of any system that does this. There are some good looking food delivery offers out there but they look pretty expensive to me.
“I’m pleased with the reimagined South Beach Diet as a home-delivered weight-loss plan, and delighted that it’s continuing to help people achieve optimal health in a heart-healthy way,” said Dr. Arthur Agatston, the world-renowned cardiologist, and creator of “The South Beach Diet,” which became a runaway bestseller with more than 23 million copies in print and multiple titles appearing on the New York Times bestseller list.
The food is decent. I have stayed away from anything with meat in it because I just didn’t like them. I returned 14 dinners and nutrisystem sent me new ones before I even got a chain to mail my dinners back. I did need to pay the shipping costs but it wasn’t too bad. I am a lot happier eating the non meat foods. Love the little pizzas!! Desserts are great. The candy bars taste like you’re actually eating a snickers. Drink about 2 glasses or water before your meal and during the day and you won’t be hungry. I have lost 7 in three weeks. I will be starting my next month next week.
ConsumerAffairs.com has received 33 complaints, nine in the past month, about the NutriSystem weight loss program. The complaints are not usually about a lack of results, but rather, the distasteful food and lack of variety the diet offers.
My favorite meal of the day is breakfast. I love to sink my teeth into a big bagel or English muffin in the morning. I also love cereal. But, I know I need to lose weight, which is why I decided to try Nutrisystem. Not one to want to spend much time in the kitchen, this plan seemed to be the most practical one for me.
The Nutrisystem program i think is founded in good ideas. However i have a few complaints. The food is mostly bland and has no real flavor. While portioned well, i still felt like i was lacking something (I work out about 4-5 times a week including playing hockey and it left me hungry).
The size of the meals is considered by some as being on the small side. This is especially when compared with an overweight person’s regular meals. But you may have noticed that overweight people generally tend to eat more than they should. That means the regular meal size is larger than a thin person’s regular meal size.
They try to rip you off when quit their auto delivery program. Very very unpleasant people to deal with. They shipped me stuff 3 days after I had already cancelled and had a confirmation number stating I cancelled. They refused to turn the shipment around or to take it back and are trying to create some kind of lie that I created a 2nd account in November and they only cancelled one account. The only thing I did in November was update my credit card expiration date (which I regret). Now they are trying to scam me out of an extra $375. If I guaranteed no more shipments are coming to my name or my address that should be the end of the story, not with them! I am fighting them through my credit card company but please be aware of whatever traps they have in store for any of you.
My husband and I just started Nutrisystem. We talked about it for a month before deciding to order and I have to say, We have no regrets. I am pre-diabetic and I am significantly overweight. My husband only needs to lose a few pounds but everyone needs a diet buddy! After scrolling through bank statements we realized that we would actually save money by ordering for the both of us. I think a huge misconception that I have seen on other review sites is that if someone is overweight then ,obviously, they are lazy. In my case working extremely long hours as a nurse has taken its toll. I never feel like cooking after 12 hour shifts in a psychiatric ward. It was so easy to grab something on the way home from work. My husband also works 12 hour shifts as a supervisor and my youngest is also a nurse working 12 hour shifts. Once we get home we crash and burn. On days off we are very active. We kayak, ride bikes, walk and work outside nonstop. It’s so convenient to come home and have food that’s ready to go and good for us. I have already lost weight and feel great! My weight has been an issue for years but was compounded when my Dad passed away. All I wanted to do was eat. I’m trying to avoid the same issues he dealt with for the majority of his life. He was diabetic and had heart disease. I think every diet has pros and cons but when you start factoring in heart problems and diabetes then it’s a no-brainer. Also check nutrition facts for what you normally eat and I would guarantee that the sodium and preservatives in Nutrisystem aren’t nearly as bad as most things that we eat.
The Zone diet is a high-protein, low-carbohydrate, fat-controlled eating plan. It is not as restrictive as other high-protein diets and it allows for a broad range of foods to be consumed. A small amount of protein is combined with twice the amount of “favorable” carbohydrates, including fruits and vegetables. If choosing “less desirable” carbohydrates, the portion size is smaller. Sears’ Zone diet is based on the theory that the human body is genetically programmed to reach peak efficiency when all meals, including snacks, consist of a set caloric ratio of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. The diet recommends an intake of 40% of calories from carbohydrates, 30% from protein, and 30% from fats (40-30-30). When this ratio is achieved, the body is working within the “zone.” The body will have maximum energy and weight loss.
Hi Mickey – You’re right that there are some additional costs, and thanks for sharing your experience. I still think Nutrisystem is fairly priced, and is an excellent resource for people looking to lose weight quickly. You will get results when following their plan, which is why it can be a great option for a lot of people who have a significant amount of weight to lose. For me, it has been a good way to reset after weight gain, and then I can go back to focusing on eating healthy and preparing meals on my own, sort of like you plan to do. It’s also important to note that they do offer more comprehensive plans, where more of your meals are provided as well, so be sure to take a good look at all of their plans when deciding which one will work best for you and your budget. In any case, hope your month went well, and best of luck with your weight loss journey.

Nutrisystem’s convenient packaged meals make it easy to drop pounds in the short term, thanks to their controlled portions and restricted calories, though the food it provides you for each meal of the week does make this diet plan costlier than most. There is so much emphasis on eating correctly that this online diet program doesn’t provide a lot of tools and support for exercising.
I liked the ease of the meals and not having to go to the grocery store which is a land mine of pizza, ice cream, danish, etc. I’m trying to figure out how to order without the chocolate items. I know that on QVC I can order just lunches, dinners or breakfasts without other meals.
I was very frustrated with Nutrisystem. Because I need to lose over 100 pounds and don’t like to cook, I thought Nutrisystem would be the ideal program for me. When my first shipment arrived, I had no idea how much cupboard space would be needed to house all of the items. (I didn’t try the plan that has items that need to be kept frozen.) I ended up keeping most of the food on a counter which “screamed” to my family and friends that once again Barb’s trying to lose You supplement the meals by buying certain carbs, proteins, dairy, fruits, and veggies at the grocery store. Nutrisystem provides you a list of grocery options, but you really have a lot of options and can shop for things you like, within the guidelines.
Nutrisystem has been around for more than 40 years and has meal plans specific to women, men, vegetarians, and those with diabetes. Women’s meal plans are slightly cheaper than men’s. They come with breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack. Meal plans for men come with an extra snack.
Thanks for your honest review. I’m contemplating this program, haven’t looked into WW or Jenny Craig yet. I wanted to do some research and really find out what I can expect. I really hope my only problem is portion sizes, I think carbs do me alot of damage and I’m afraid NutriSystem may contain too many.
