When I finally decided to sign on with Nutrisystem, my health was not in good shape. To be perfectly honest, I had been eating and drinking way too much, and in the span of about 3 or 4 years, I had easily packed on an additional 30 pounds of mostly fat.
A typical day might include a Nutrisystem granola-like bar for breakfast, one of the brand’s shakes for mid-morning snack, its chicken noodle soup for lunch, a serving of low-fat yogurt with fresh blueberries for mid-afternoon (you’re on your own with this one), a Nutrisystem lasagna for dinner, and one of the brand’s cookies for dessert or nighttime snack. This plan also includes access to the Nutrisystem app, which provides tools, tips, and tracking.
This is their most affordable plan and is a good way to get started if you’re on a limited budget. On the Basic Plan, Nutrisystem will send you a full selection of ready-to-go foods which includes the most popular foods on their menu.
I am on day 4 of the 5 day plan, and I have followed the plan to a tee. The first day was the hardest (very hungry in the afternoon), but I have since been fine. The program works by giving you a base meal, and you add additional items. Typically, you add in 2 proteins, 3 veggies, and 2 carbs a day. So here is an example of my day: Breakfast: provided meal and Greek yogurt – protein #1 Snack: an apple – carb #1 Lunch: provided meal with a salad containing chicken or hard boiled egg, mushrooms, tomatoes, and a light vinaigrette dressing – veggie #1 and protein #2, Snack: carrots and celery – veggie #2, Dinner: provided dinner, and add canned pineapple and steamed broccoli – carb #2 and veggie #3 There is also a dessert, which I have only eaten once because I haven’t been hungry after dinner and I forget about it. Is the food good? Some is and some isn’t. It’s a diet! Last I checked, diet food is a always a compromise. I was not a big fan of the lasagna, but I could eat it. The beef and potatoes is gross, but I added S&P, and it was tolerable. I thought the pizza was pretty good for microwaved pizza. The rest of the meals so far are fine. Since I add a salad with chicken or an egg, I don’t miss a “meal” when the provided lunch is a meal bar. And I’m not hungry! I was SURE I was going to be starving on this plan. I’m not. I just picked up another 5 day pack to continue with the plan for another few days before deciding whether to sign up for the regular Nutrisystem plan. I am leaning towards doing it. I’ve lost 2 lbs. in 3 days, and my weight doesn’t typically fluctuate, so I know it is real weight loss. For ease of use compared to other diets I’ve done, this is definitely worth it. If I could spend hours planning and prepping my own food, I’d skip this. But even with the prep time needed for the food like chopping veggies, cooking chicken/eggs, etc., it is worth it for me to use the plan. I’d recommend trying it. The worst you could lose is the money spent on the meal plan. Or, you might lose some weight!
Anyway, maybe this information will help someone. I know for me my healthy lifestyle fell apart at the grocery store. Nutrisystem takes care of that for you. I go to the grocery store a lot these days but, it’s all small purchases. There’s four grocery stores between work and home so I don’t mind. I don’t buy foods with a shelf life for the most part. I would say that we actually save money on Nutrisystem because during the week we don’t eat out at all and we don’t buy very much from the grocery store. Our monthly expenditure is either cheaper or a wash but, Nutrisystem isn’t costing us anymore than we were spending a month anyway.
The Atkins diet may be one of the most well-known fad diets. It is a high-protein, high-fat, low-carbohydrate plan. This diet has been around for decades and has undergone many revisions. The previous plan allowed for unrestricted amounts of meat, cheese, and eggs while severely restricting carbohydrates, including sugar, bread, pasta, milk, fruits, and vegetables.
Remember to use those unlimited non-starchy veggies. They can be a big help with hunger especially in your first couple weeks on the plan. You can also reach out to a counselor at 1-800-585-5483 press option two. They would be happy to go over more tips if needed.
I tried the program several years agl. It worked well for me until they started emptying their warehouse and sent me 22 choclate brownies in one order along with other things that I specifically requested not be sent. They never once sent me the order I requested. The food war marginal at best and extremely overpriced. The same meals can be bought in the supermarket for 1/5th the price. The only advantage is not having to plan meals. Just add a salad or fruit.

Figueroa’s team ultimately found that the key to arterial health in obese postmenopausal women is in diet — specifically, a hypocaloric program such as the one offered by Nutrisystem. Pressure waves generated by contraction of the heart muscle travel faster through stiff arteries, because stiff arteries are not able to expand outward. Sensors placed on the subject can detect changes in pulse velocity that result from treatment. The researchers observed improvements in arterial stiffness with diet alone. The findings also indicate that there is an early effect of diet on leg arterial stiffness that influences brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity, a marker of central arterial stiffness. This reduction in arterial stiffness can be considered to have a positive influence on cardiovascular function.
This weekend I was in so much pain I thought I had a bowel obstruction or maybe having a diverticulitis attack. I could not stand fully upright. When I walked lightly the impact of my feet on the fllor hurt my side intensely! The only thing I could think of was I had been replacing my lunch with Nutrisystem shakes for 3 days that week. I was bleeding and passing huge clots (TMI – I know, but important to share I think). I was afraid and almost went to the emergency room. I started a barrage of OTC treatments, and am still tender on my right side three days later. The food smells and tastes so bad, canned dog food is about the best description I’ve seen. The shakes actually tasted pretty good! I am afraid to use meal replacement shakes now because of this incident.
You can also have condiments, sauces, dressings, and one snack per day. Snack choices include celery, Jell-O, a Popsicle, pickles, gum, or mints, and half an ounce of either walnuts, pistachios, or almonds.
Nutrisystem is expensive and not realistic for someone with a family (you would be spending approx. $300 a month just on your food PLUS your grocery shopping for your family). If finanaces aren’t a problem, think about how many times a month you go out to eat because you can no longer dine out on this program.
The cost of food for 28 days depends on the particular Nutrisystem program. For the Basic Plan, food is preselected and costs between $240 and $300 per month. That’s between $8.90 and $11.04 per day. Prices increase with the Core and Uniquely Yours plans, which offer 100 and 150 more food options that can be chosen. Food is delivered frozen and ready for reheating.
Well, 6 have already gone and I’m looking to make that 20 for sure. I’m a determined guy and when I start something I stick to the plan through and through and I always finish it no matter what. Hey, this is just so easy I love it!
The low-priced plan is called the “basic plan.” Currently priced at just $9.82 per day, this is a great plan for those looking to really jump start their weight loss in an way with pre-selected, ready-to-go foods. An option is also available at this level for individuals with diabetes.

I exercise 4 days a week and eat all my meals planned by the meal planner. The plan helps me when and if I go out to eat, and since I don’t have anything to count, I feel more comfortable. I have a very healthy diet now, and try to get my friends who need to lose weight to join too. There are so many people I think that could benefit from using the Nutrisystem meal plans, and it is so easy there’s no way to mess up.
Don’t get discouraged on this or any diet. I asked the Wellness Director at work why I wasn’t losing weight, but my clothes were getting looser. I was also going to Planet Fitness with a friend a few tines a week. She said that what was happening was that I was building muscle, and redistributing my weight bc of exercise.

The Skinny: Southbeachdiet.com is an online version of the “good carbs/good fats” diet created by cardiologist Arthur Agatston. For the first two weeks, you eat three extremely low-carb meals a day plus mandatory snacks. After that, you gradually add “good carbs,” such as fruits and whole grains. You can customize menus, search a database of more than 1,000 recipes and get a personalized shopping list. There’s online support from staff dieticians and members plus daily motivational emails.
I should clarify the calorie amount. It was a special 1,000/day for the first week and then they would move me up to 1,500/day. After 3 days I saw the 1,000/day was not sustainable. Adding the extra calories did the trick. Today, I’m usually in the 1,500-1,800/day range. It’s my opinion they start out with that crazy low amount for the first week to give you momentum and continue.
Enjoy breakfasts like a cinnamon bun bar or a blueberry muffin; entrees including fettucini alfredo, black bean tortilla soup, and cheese ravioli with basil tomato sauce; and desserts such as a fudge brownie or a chocolaty nougat bar with peanuts and caramel. Just add your own fresh veggies, fruits, juices, and salads to create complete, wholesome meals. From Nutrisystem.
I tried Nutrisystem. You may be able to lose weight but in order to keep it off you would need to stay on this food forever. I really did not care for the taste of the product. I tried it for one month and much of the stuff I dumped. It is not really healthy due to all the preservatives, etc. in this food. I did have quite a bit of stomach discomfort which may be how they process their food or whatever they put in it. Now on Weight Watchers and have lost 18 lbs. Like this plan better because it costs less and I can choose really good whole foods — not processed stuff.
Alcoholic beverages, which tend to be high in calories and often contain extensive fat, cholesterol and sodium, are not conducive to your weight loss goals. Therefore, we recommend that you refrain from, or limit, alcohol consumption while on the Nutrisystem weight loss program.
