I’ve been on this diet for only 3 days and what I’ve had so far is far from appetizing. I did Weight Watchers before and had much better luck with preparing my own meals and deciding what I wanted to eat each day. The food is just gross. I have called twice now to have the advisors reset my login to get help online and still on day 3 I can’t access the websites member information.
As with all the plans, the first week of the Basic Plan is Turbo10, an ultra-low-calorie plan that allows you to lose up to 10 pounds and up to five inches right off the bat. Unlike the other plans, custom menus are not an option; you must stick with whatever you receive in the Favorites Pack. Counseling and other services are not included with this plan.
Read my comment to Lucy about gaining muscle through exercise–it will go someways to explaining things. You didn’t say if you’ve lost any inches since 8/1. Could be your a little slimmer without any actual pounds lost. Other people tend to notice before you do, by the way. Keep going and keep your goal firmly fixed in your thoughts.
Not good. I have been the program 2 weeks. Started with turo.10. Lost 1 lb. spoke with rep. Also, do not care about food allergies and way too much sodium in food. I was told I can upgrade and pay additional 19.95 to customize plan. Also, if I cancel, I have to pay $99. I told the rep all they are interested in is selling their products and making money. No consideration is made for food allergies. I never ate so much chocolate which I am allergic to milk chocolate and peanuts. Pizza, my Italian mother and grandmother would say, is NOT dinner. I am very disappointed in this program especially since my endocrinologist recommended it. The rep told me that since I was under 5′ tall and wanted to drop 8 lbs. it would take longer and slower. This is not mentioned in the ads nor about the high sodium content nor be aware of food allergies. Not happy. Will not recommend this plan and I told the rep that.
As I mentioned before, any drastic diet change to which you do not transition can cause many of these side effects, including the mood swings and digestive issues. Removing regular consumption of alcohol and quitting smoking can also cause headaches, flu symptoms, and other issues. Once your body has gotten used to its new habits and nutrition, any symptoms should taper off.
I agree you can lose weight without doing any commercial diet program. Common sense is a pretty powerful thing when it’s used. A person’s body is their responsibility and if they gain weight, its up to them to actively work of getting back in shape. No one else can do that for you!
Well said!!!!!! I am starting my 6th week and have lost 13 lbs. I eat all the time, food is fine, urinate frequently even without 64 oz of water daily. The flatulence is from the finer. I was in the army and ate MRE’s so this is doable. America is FAT and everyone complaining here wants their pizza and ice cream which isn’t healthy. Notice that NS takes your sodium to a healthy 2300 or less mg’s a day which is the daily recommended dose. It’s full of iron, fiber, etc. that fast food doesn’t provide. A plain potato is nasty but one loaded with butter, sour cream, cheese, bacon, etc. tastes wonderful. Food is for survival not pleasure people. NS WORKS!
Hi Colleen. All dieters have different weight loss results. Some users loose weight faster/slower than others. To receive optimal results it is advised to follow all the instructions provided with your purchase.
Another plus to the Nutrisystem plan is that you will be eating smaller meals more often, which is considered a healthier way to eat based on research. It has been found to promote greater weight loss and maintenance and the prevention of other health issues.
I have been on Ntrisystem now for 11 days. The first week I was hungry but I expected that. If you expect to lose weight you will have to cut down the number of calories you consume. I know I was consuming way to many.
What I expect to get from this is some help. I am hoping that 3-4 months on Nutrisystem will help me gain some idea of portion control so that I can do it myself. I am hoping that I can lose enough weight that exercise doesn’t make me feel like I’m having a heart attack after 2 minutes. I don’t intend to stay on this forever. I just want an effective kick start to motivate me enough to do it myself.
The menopause affects different people differently but often the imbalance of hormones leads to weight gain. Have you consulted with your doctor about this? There are many very effective treatments that can restore your hormone balance which can help with your weight.
I was really undecided over trying nutrisystem for myself. I read so many conflicting reports–some say its great–others complain the food tastes terrible–others bitch about hassle getting their money back when they can’t hack it. I showed your review to a friend who did OK om the diet two years ago and he said its right on the button. Good enough for me. So I went for it. Just finished my first two weeks and I’m really surprised in a good way. The food tastes just fine–so much for the complainers! I lost 7lbs already and I’m feeling really great. I’ll be staying with this for a while cause I need to lose 40lbs in all. But I’m convinced I’ll do it! Thanks, Nelson
I just finished the first week of the Nutrisystem Women’s Basic Plan and I lost two pounds. I’m pretty happy about that. It seems kind of slow, but I haven’t been able to lose two pounds on any of the other weight loss programs that I have tried over the years. I have around 50 pounds to lose, so I figure two pounds a week is a pretty good rate.
I have such a hard time staying away from carbohydrates. The Nutrisystem Plan helps me get the right balance of carbohydrates and proteins without feeling like I am missing out on anything. I am fully satisfied after I eat these meals, and I have not been tempted to go off and eat other things. I love that I can eat three times a day with snacks, and I have such a nice variety of foods to eat. My favorite things are the muffins; I always tried to stay away from them before Nutrisystem, but now I can eat a Nutrisystem muffin without any guilt 🙂
I just read Linda’s comment and I’m in pretty much the same place. Just completed Fast 5 and into the 28 day diet and I also lost 7 pounds in 7 days so far. I’m so amazed because I also read so many negative comments in lots of places about how the food is horrible and the service is bad etc. But my experience is the food is pretty good considering it mostly comes in packets and every time I called customer service, they were really helpful. I like that all the hassle is taken out of this diet, which is maybe why its working so well for me. In the past, I stressed over too many things with other diets and they always failed! Before this I wouldn’t have said it, but I’m a total Nutrisystem fan now!
If you want to eat things like delicious chocolate cake, tasty brownies, cheese puffs, chocolate crunch bars, hearty beef stew, flame broiled beef patties, cheesy potatoes, pasta with beef, chocolate chip scones, cinnamon buns and egg frittatas and still lose weight, then you should try the Nutrisystem men’s basic plan.
I really do like a lot of the food they deliver. I’m really happy with all of the pasta dishes. The Chicken Pasta Parmesan is my favorite dinner meal so far. I like the BBQ Sauce over Beef, but the BBQ Sauce with Pork Wrap tastes a little too spicy to me. I do not like the Grilled Chicken Breast at all, and I wasn’t real thrilled with the Flame Broiled Beef Patty – I’ve been spoiled by Wendy’s.
My plan includes a breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack/dessert, and protein shake each day. I order them once a month, and they arrive in a big box on the doorstep. If there are frozen meals included, those come shipped in dry ice. (By the way, don’t throw out the Styrofoam cooler! You can find lots of people happy to take it off your hands and reuse it!) So then I’m stocked for the month.
With the proprietary Nutrisystem D program, the company claims that you can lose weight and maintain a normal life while dealing with the repercussions of diabetes. As a matter of fact, the Nutrisystem D diet plan has been vetted to help improve the symptoms of diabetes under the watchful eye of a medical professional. Depending on your needs, you can take advantage of the Basic plan, the Diabetes Core plan or the Uniquely Yours plan that maximizes your options without reducing your health benefits. Here are just a few of the health advantages that you can expect when you take part in the Nutrisystem D program:
Just finished month 1 and lost about 9 pounds! Didn’t quite hit that 13-pound mark, but feeling pretty good about my progress so far. Thanks for the thoughtful and detailed review – it helps hearing someone else’s story.
With well over 150 different meals for you to choose from (including another 30 new and improved dishes), the full menu is extremely varied. As you can see, it provides you with many opportunities to further customize your personal menu to suit your individual tastes.

“The purpose of this study was to combine two practical interventions for this group of women,” said Dr. Bruce Daggy, a co-investigator on the study and the chief science officer of Nutrisystem. “Nutrisystem is readily available by home delivery, is easy to follow, and includes support tools for individuals on the program. Likewise, low intensity resistance exercise is something that almost everyone can do. It’s not necessary to own the specific equipment used in this study.”
In the early 1970s, a Philadelphia-area man named Harold Katz, then only 34 years old, decided to devise a convenient weight-loss solution after years of watching his mother struggle with obesity. Initially, Nutrisystem strictly supplied meals to brick-and-mortar centers; the first opened in the Philadelphia area. In 1999, however, the company switched to a direct-to-consumer model. Today, the system is actively sold on QVC and is available in Walmart and Costco stores. It can also be purchased directly through the website at www.nutrisystem.com.
I finished months on Nutrisystem last October after losing 14lbs I was thrilled as you can imagine. I wasn’t too keen on most of the food, but it wasn’t so bad, as some are saying. I just accepted it would be a tough thing to do, small meals and no candy lol. After I just thought I would go back to my old diet. But the first day, I couldn’t bear the sight of a huge pizza my family were tucking into. So I skipped it and ate a Schwanns lasagna I had in the freezer instead. It was then it struck me…I didn’t want to eat that old way anymore. I wanted to eat better and not put back the weight I lost like I always used to on other diets. All those itty bitty little meals I ate got me into a groove of eating less and even healthier. So it gave me much more than just the weight I lost. So far, I have stuck to that and its been more than 3 months and I’m actually another 4lbs lighter than when I stopped the diet! And no candy bars!
The gas is due to your digestive system adapting to the new food you’re eating. If your body is used to eating junk, then it will take a bit of time. It will subside, and it has nothing to do with a “healthy” diet.
This offer gives you a big discount that is widely advertised this time around. By combining this offer with auto-delivery, it can mean reducing the cost of all the top programs to a very affordable and surprisingly low price!
All plans besides the Basic Plan include unlimited support from qualified nutritionists and dietitians. As with any life change, you may hit bumps in the road. If so, the help that you need is just a call or a few clicks away. Dietitians, nutritionists and other counselors can help you customize your plan even more to ensure optimal results. If you get stuck in a rut, they can provide suggestions for getting on track again. It isn’t quite the same as having someone there to help you in person, but it is a nice, useful feature that many folks should get a lot out of.
A calorie is a calorie, the advice goes. Eat too many … gain weight. Eat fewer … lose weight. But many believe weight loss is more than a calorie equation, with so-called new-and-improved ways to lose weight being ever popular. Americans spend an estimated $42 billion annually on weight loss foods, products, and services. With that much money at stake, it’s no surprise there are an overwhelming number of “fad” diets and other weight-loss products on the market.
The skinny: The “doctor-designed” Bistro M.D. program aims to provide a rotating menu of FedEx’d, portion-controlled, frozen meals that are a cut above the usual packaged diet fare. (The price is a cut above the competition, too.) The plan tries to help you avoid a weight-loss stall out by varying the daily calorie intake between 1,100 and 1,400. By eating a little more some days and a little less on others, you’ll supposedly prevent your body from becoming used to the same number of calories every day. Bistro M.D. also offers a Biggest Loser meal plan designed by the doctors and nutritionists associated with the TV show. Bistro M.D. doesn’t do much in the way of organized support, but you can speak with a registered dietitian by phone upon request.
If you’ve noticed a celebrity on TV proclaiming how effective Nutrisystem is, you’ve no doubt wondered if it could work for you. It sounds as if it could be the winner, since it takes out all of the guesswork as to what you should be eating, and also makes it so you don’t have to buy all of the ingredients and prepare all of the foods.
