That being said, congrats to your husband for his weight loss. I think you, generally speaking, need to find what you’re most comfortable with and works for you. So much of it comes down to cutting down that portion size and learning what works for you. Progress is the real goal, in my opinion, to be able to find some sort of balance. Best of luck on your journey – I know it’ll be a challenge I need to regularly stay on top of.
Since being on Nutrisystem, I’ve learned how to eat healthy, correctly portioned meals. Eating breakfast helps me to stay full to lunch so that I’m not binging because I’m starving once lunchtime rolls around. I never feel guilty any more eating things like muffins because I’ve seen that while eating the Nutrisystem food I can lose weight. I’ve lost a total of eight pounds in four weeks on this plan and I could not be more thrilled. Now that the first eight pounds are off, I’m even more motivated to stick to the plan.
If NS does nothing but help me with portion control 90% of the time…I’m still ahead of the game. If I lose 30 pounds I’d be at my target weight for age and height. I like that it tells me exactly what I can add and in what portions. I can add a yogurt to my breakfast and a tablespoon of vinaigrette to my salad. Little things make all the difference.
There are a few factors to consider before starting the NutriSystem program, such as the preservatives and additives in the program’s prepared foods, satisfaction with weight loss while on the program, and a lack of instruction on how to maintain a healthy weight.
Are these the words that often accompany the love/hate relationship many Americans have with diets? Or is the food so disgusting that it’s not feasible to base an entire diet on it? By the end of these next 28 days, I expect to have answers to those questions and more.

I love to hear people winning with their diet. I finished 3 months on Nutrisystem just before Christmas after I shrunk from a size 18 to a size 10! All that fat was gone baby and my old clothes all looked like they were made for an elephant. I was so happy I threw a party for my friends to burn my old clothes in the yard and it was so amazing. It cost me all my meager savings to buy new clothes for this new small size body but I’m the happiest girl on my block for sure!
I wasn’t sure how much fruit I can have, now I know once a day. I was eating it with breakfast though instead of with my PM snack. My schedule doesn’t always allow me to be home to have the snacks so does it matter when? Very pleased with the help.
Why is Nutrisystem a good diet? I think, because it’s not sort of ‘magic’ shake or drink that will solve all your problems with your health and weight. No, it’s a completed plan with prepackaged meals with the controlled amount of calories.
The Nutrisystem diet is the ultimate in convenience. If you don’t want to think about portion sizes, planning, shopping, or cooking and are happy to have meals delivered to your doorstep in microwave-ready pouches, then you’re going to love this plan.
As with all the plans, the first week of the Basic Plan is Turbo10, an ultra-low-calorie plan that allows you to lose up to 10 pounds and up to five inches right off the bat. Unlike the other plans, custom menus are not an option; you must stick with whatever you receive in the Favorites Pack. Counseling and other services are not included with this plan.
I started th NS diet this week. I am 4 days in. After 3 days as of this AM, I have lost 3#. I purchased mine at Walmart. I love the fact, I don’t have to think about my main dish. All I need to make sure that I have enough fresh veggies and fruit. I am getting used to fatfree salad dressing. I am getting creative on my veggie dishes. So far my food has been very tasty. You have to really want to loose the weight and not make feeble excuses like not at least giving the food a fair try.I would say ,if you are not losing on this, you aren’t following the program right. Good luck all!
I have lost only 12 pounds in the last month, but if I keep this up I will be able to lose the weight I need so that I can go with the girls on the Mexico trip without wondering if I can fit in a seat on the plane. I use the trackers and the diary online, and even exercise 3 days a week for about half an hour total. The one thing that I love about Nutrisystem Silver is that it is made for women my age. I’m not expected to exercise as much or the same as younger women, and the foods are made to my liking.
The results are going to be different for everyone, but if you have 20, 30 lbs, or more to lose, then I would expect to be on the diet for at least two months. If after that time you feel like you have established decent eating habits, then you may decide that it’s time to come up with a healthy eating plan on your own. Remember, too, that Nutrisystem offers expert counselors who you can talk to, and they can help you decide if you’re ready to transition off the program.
I have been on Nutrisystem since March of this year and I have lost 50 lbs. My only complaint is the price, however right now it is not a strain on me and I am pleased with the results. Some folks hate the food, but I actually enjoy it. You do still have to buy food to add in, but you get to eat basically all day long. I like the fact that I do get to eat pancakes, waffles, muffins, chococate cake, brownies, cake, cookies so I do not feel like I am missing out on anything and I have no reason to go out and binge on things I used to binge on.
As with all diets, nothing works for everyone, and nothing works forever. The celebrity endorsements are great when they work, but the celebrities who regain their weight once they discontinue this plan are proving that this is not the answer for everyone. Many people prefer to be able to eat food they prepare and do not like the idea of prepackaged foods.
Hey Kathy, hang in there–you’re digestive system will get used to the change in diet. Plus a loss rate of 1-2lbs a week is more common, not the fast loss some experience. Everyone’s different and we all lose it at different rates depending on so many different things, like starting weight, BMI, metabolic rate etc. That last one you can do something about as metabolism responds to exercise. That means the more you make your body work, the faster the excess fat is used up.

PS: I made some raspberry coffee and chilled it. I’m using that with the chocolate Turbo Shake mix and several ice cubes in the blender…. what a treat! Thought that might be a nice tip for someone else. Make the coffee strong and don’t use too many ice cubes and you’ll get a lot of flavor out of it. With so many different flavored coffees to choose from, there’s no end to the possibilities! 🙂
I am 5’2 and 155 lbs. I want to try NS, but after reading all the comments, questions, praises, and complaunts, I’m afraid that I’ll gain weight instead of losing it. I don’t have any major health issues except for the fact that I am overweight. I want to lose at least 30 lbs, fast.Does anyone think it will work, or should I just try something by Dr. Ian Smith? I don’t want to throw my money in the trash… oh, did I mention that I have a hard time eating, smelling, or cooking chicken… it literally makes me sick to my stomach… would that really affect me?
The skinny: Premium-priced Jenny Craig lets you order its heart-healthy, nutritionally balanced packaged food by phone and pick it up at a Jenny Craig center or have it delivered through Jenny Direct. You eat three Jenny Craig meals plus a snack per day, and supplement with fruit, vegetables and dairy. “The food may lack zesty flavor, but it teaches portion control through visualizing, so when you go out to eat in a restaurant you’ll know how big a piece of meat you want to eat,” says Gerbstadt. Once a week, you get a weigh-in and pep talk with a consultant – who is not a dietician and who earns commissions from selling you products. There’s also round-the-clock phone support.
Since starting the diet, I’ve lost 20 pounds and have started feeling good about my body again, which has helped my love life significantly. My girlfriend can’t keep her hands off of my new slimmer waist 😉 She is so proud of me and she thinks I look great. Who would have thought I could eat healthy food that I do not have to prepare that I actually like? Nutrisystem rocks!
Dietitians at Nutrisystem designed the program to contain small portions, balanced nutrition, and frequent meals. The program encourages customers to eat every 2-3 hours. We discovered that the portions are shockingly tiny.
My roommates and I just started Nutrisystem. I want to lose 20 lbs. They need to lose 40. I’d just crossed the threshold into overweight, and wanted to get back down to where my pants fit instead of going out and buying a new wardrobe (Its actually cheaper to do Nutrisystem). We just finished the Fast5. My roommates dropped 2.5 pounds after 3 days. I actually gained a pound after three days (but I’m blaming hormones and mother nature). But, sure enough, after the week was over I’d lost 6 pounds! You have to fill in the gaps between meals with healthy vegetable snacks, and you have to get used to being hungry. Nutrisystem is cutting down the big portioned meals we are all used to, so your stomach at first is really confused and wanting to be full. It takes will power not to eat when you are feeling hungry, but if you are, just snack on something like carrots. It really gets you used to eating smaller meals, and eating more vegetables. We’ve also started going to the gym 2-3 times a week.
Not good. I have been the program 2 weeks. Started with turo.10. Lost 1 lb. spoke with rep. Also, do not care about food allergies and way too much sodium in food. I was told I can upgrade and pay additional 19.95 to customize plan. Also, if I cancel, I have to pay $99. I told the rep all they are interested in is selling their products and making money. No consideration is made for food allergies. I never ate so much chocolate which I am allergic to milk chocolate and peanuts. Pizza, my Italian mother and grandmother would say, is NOT dinner. I am very disappointed in this program especially since my endocrinologist recommended it. The rep told me that since I was under 5′ tall and wanted to drop 8 lbs. it would take longer and slower. This is not mentioned in the ads nor about the high sodium content nor be aware of food allergies. Not happy. Will not recommend this plan and I told the rep that.
Everyone’s body is different and most people will have a metabolism that actually will try to adjust for weightloss – especially if you were taking in a lot of calories prior to a low calorie diet. Your body will go into “starvation mode” which means it will actually work harder to store the food thinking you are starting to actually starve. That is why if you cut back on food and exercise more it will general take 1-3 months to change your metabolic rate. FYI.
Nutrisystem sends almost all foods directly to your doorstep. You don’t need to do anything to prepare those foods. You don’t have to learn how to shop for healthier foods at the grocery store, nor do you need to learn how to cook healthier at home.
