Nutrisystem has been around for a long time, and there’s a reason for that: the program has worked for millions of people over the years. Their commercials are very appealing and make you want to try their plan because you hear the testimonies from real people who have lost weight with Nutrisystem.
I guess all diet plans have their complainers, just like most things people will always find something to complain about. But them kind of people probably complain about a lot of things. As for me, you won’t hear anything but praise for Nutrisystem cause it worked for me!
Interestingly, NutriSystem called me yesterday. Apparently my first story caught their attention. Not sure how he got my cell phone number, but NutriSystem representative Curt Bauer simply called to offer any support and to inform us of a slight error in reporting: it doesn’t cost more to select a NutriSystem menu, he informed me.
Hi Joanne – sorry to hear you haven’t had the results you expected. When the plan is followed correctly you should definitely lose more than 3 pounds over the course of three weeks – I’ve never loss less than 5 during my first week on the Turbo 10 – and in my experience the Nutrisystem counselors have been extremely helpful, so I’m pretty surprised by your comment. In any case, hope the rest of your month goes well, and best of luck moving forward.
Research has shown that the calorie density of our diets will impact our weight. The calorie density is the amount of calories in a given weight of food. Consuming foods that are considered low-calorie dense aids in weight loss. These foods will provide a high volume without a lot of calories. By replacing foods that are considered high-calorie dense, you save additional calories. Some find it more satisfying to focus on consuming low-calorie dense foods in large quantities versus counting calories. The Pritikin diet also encourages daily exercise and stress-reduction techniques.
After you’ve picked one of the plans listed above, you will receive a full month’s worth of food right to your doorstep. I loved the convenience that Nutrisystem provided while on the diet – it really doesn’t get much easier – as long as you follow their plan, you’re pretty much guaranteed to lose weight.
I am on day 27. Did turbo plan. Lost 5 lbs first several days and have not lost anything since. Major plateau and very discouraging. I am going to stick with it another month. New delivery should be today. I started at 175 – 5’8″ tall. lost 1 inch in waist, chest and thigh. That is it. I have stuck to the plan. Not understanding how I’m not dropping weight. My breakfast used to be 1000 calories.
If you think of weight loss the way we think about fitness, the commercial diet plans are like a personal trainer. You put in some intensive road work, pump some iron and so forth until you reach your personal best, then take it from there with a maintance plan your trainer helps you work out before you go your separate ways.

Since Nutrisystem Lean 13 is a weight loss program that involves eating lots of prepackaged meals, snacks, shakes and processed foods, some people do experience specific side effects while on this diet. Some of the more commonly reported reactions are:
First I want to say that I have no issues with any of the food. I signed up for Nutrisystem after my sister started it and lost 11 lbs. her first month. She ended up canceling after 2nd month because of a customer service issue. I signed up anyway – while knowing this. It’s all good until you have an issue with them. And I expect I will be getting their robot response – thank you for your review and we will be looking into your account and getting in touch soon. Sure. You do that.
Hi, Heather. These entries aren’t dated, so I don’t know if this advice will help you or juts someone else down the road. I also worried about the $300 hit. Here’s the real picture, though: I averaged how much I had spent at the grocery store and drive thru’s for 3 months. I live alone. With my new grocery store bill and the cost of the Nutrisystem, I’m at just a bit LESS. I also have 2 very important suggestions for everyone since Hurricane Harvey took out my kitchen and helped me to pack on 20 pounds in 3+ months. First, take the time to put the food on a plate like you would normally eat. When the entree is placed next to the salad and vegetables, it really doesn’t look like that much less food than I was normally eating. PLUS, it takes your mind off of “diet” and onto healthy eating. It’s a mental thing. Second, don’t look at the end game. Focus on the journey. Even if it takes me a year to lose the weight since I’m in my 50’s, each month, I will be less than before, either in pounds or inches. Take the time to praise yourself for the positive change. Just because I’m not at my final goal doesn’t mean that I’m not a better me, especially in attitude! I’ll be a new me for my new house. Based on how it’s going, we should both reach the end game at the same time. Ha
With all of their 4-week dish strategies, you will certainly be consuming 4-5 times a day. Enjoy fresh vegetables and fruits like bananas, peaches, plums, strawberries, carrots, cucumbers, celery and also, of course, some tomatoes. Practice consuming healthy and balanced by yourself with four flex dishes a week. Dine out or prepare one of their easy recipes! Shed approximately 1-2 pounds. weekly. Plus you obtain each 4-week plan provided right to your door! Exactly how practical is that?
We are fairly busy with working full time and the commute. Being busy and working so much led to eating a lot of fast food. We almost always got something from a drive thru on the way home from work. After getting home neither of us really felt like cooking something for dinner. So we took the easy way out and got something that was bad for us instead of preparing a healthy meal. I also ordered a fattening lunch most days too. I would just take the easy way out and not worry about the effects it was having on my weight and health.
I have lost only 12 pounds in the last month, but if I keep this up I will be able to lose the weight I need so that I can go with the girls on the Mexico trip without wondering if I can fit in a seat on the plane. I use the trackers and the diary online, and even exercise 3 days a week for about half an hour total. The one thing that I love about Nutrisystem Silver is that it is made for women my age. I’m not expected to exercise as much or the same as younger women, and the foods are made to my liking.
The shakes however…I can honestly say Marie O. lied to us when she said “yummy”. They are so gross and I’m so happy I’m past the Turbo 10 part of my first month. I can’t stomach the shakes…and the after effects of drinking them. Stay close to the restroom for the first week! Did anyone else have this problem? I will not be adding them to my regular shipments. Yuck!
Examples include avocados, popcorn, shredded coconut and almond milk. Given how small meal portions are, make sure to use the maximum amount of extras allowed per day to feel full and ready to go all day.
One last thing: While every circumstance is different, in general I do not recommend trying to lose weight when you do not need to. If you’re out of shape and want your body to look better, the best advice is to get physical and tone up through exercise if the scales are telling you that you’re at your correct weight. This will force your body to release those calories before it can store them up, while strengthening your muscles and sculpting your body to appear slimmer.
I love to hear people winning with their diet. I finished 3 months on Nutrisystem just before Christmas after I shrunk from a size 18 to a size 10! All that fat was gone baby and my old clothes all looked like they were made for an elephant. I was so happy I threw a party for my friends to burn my old clothes in the yard and it was so amazing. It cost me all my meager savings to buy new clothes for this new small size body but I’m the happiest girl on my block for sure!
They offer a wide range of plans for pretty much anyone needing to lose weight, including diabetics, vegetarians, and seniors. They even customize their plans for men and women, so no matter your unique dietary needs, chances are pretty good that they have an option that will work for you.
The dry goods chicken alfredo was was absolutely gross. Not sure the specs are the same (ie calories and protein) but the Weightwatchers chicken alfredo – especially if you add some frozen broccoli – is excellent. I made the mistake of ordering Core too – that dry food stuff is barely even food. I’ve made it easy by just adding a two-ingredient salad (with one Tablespoon low cal dressing) every lunch and at least one large serving of (usually frozen) veggies every dinner. That will even get you thru Turbo Takeoff week. I found I need to supplement (cheat) with apples, low fat cheese sticks, deli meat etc. every once in a while or I start to feel sick. I plan to stop using NS foods (replacing quick meal plans with other decent tasting frozen low fat meals from the store) but keep up the salad and veggies habit. Weighing yourself weekly for life is just about the only way to stay on track 🙁
Nutrisystem says they deliver a simple program with great tasting foods to help you lose weight. Nutrisystem is not lying when they say this. Nutrisystem’s foods are delectable. I have never eaten healthy foods that tasted so good in all my life.
I spent more at the grocery store every month than I now spend on Nutrisystem, and there is nothing to count for calories or points of any kind. I don’t have to subject myself to embarrassing meetings, and all the tools I need are on my computer. I have lost 14 pounds in the last month, and am still losing. What more could I ask for?
When I was 15 my mother bought the Nutri System food and at that time I lost 50 lbs. I have kept it off until I was 31. I became pregnant at 31 and gained over 60 lbs. I just ordered the food and I’m waiting for it. If I lost weight when I was 15 I sure can do it better now.
Each day I made sure to drink at least 64 oz of water and light exercise, which usually included twenty minutes of hula hooping. With the help of my Fitbit, I made a goal to get in at least 9000 steps in per day. I used the MyfitnessPal app to keep a log of my daily food and calorie intake. Here I was able to make other friends from a Nutrisystem support group who were reaching for the same goals. We motivated each other as we shared our food diaries and our Nutrisystem diet reviews, and commented each other on achievements and upsets. It’s a fun way to stay on track.
My husband and I just started Nutrisystem. We talked about it for a month before deciding to order and I have to say, We have no regrets. I am pre-diabetic and I am significantly overweight. My husband only needs to lose a few pounds but everyone needs a diet buddy! After scrolling through bank statements we realized that we would actually save money by ordering for the both of us. I think a huge misconception that I have seen on other review sites is that if someone is overweight then ,obviously, they are lazy. In my case working extremely long hours as a nurse has taken its toll. I never feel like cooking after 12 hour shifts in a psychiatric ward. It was so easy to grab something on the way home from work. My husband also works 12 hour shifts as a supervisor and my youngest is also a nurse working 12 hour shifts. Once we get home we crash and burn. On days off we are very active. We kayak, ride bikes, walk and work outside nonstop. It’s so convenient to come home and have food that’s ready to go and good for us. I have already lost weight and feel great! My weight has been an issue for years but was compounded when my Dad passed away. All I wanted to do was eat. I’m trying to avoid the same issues he dealt with for the majority of his life. He was diabetic and had heart disease. I think every diet has pros and cons but when you start factoring in heart problems and diabetes then it’s a no-brainer. Also check nutrition facts for what you normally eat and I would guarantee that the sodium and preservatives in Nutrisystem aren’t nearly as bad as most things that we eat.

I’m working with the mens select program right now and three weeks into my first month. So far I lost 7lbs just eating the meals and snacks they sent and nothing else. The food is pretty good considering its all frozen. Once its heated in a microwave, its not any different from the frozen meals I get from the store. I was worried my freezer wouldn’t be big enough but the meals are packaged really well and it all went in with space to spare. I’d recommend anyone thinking on this of paying the extra to get the select version if you don’t like the idea of the packets of freeze dried pasta or rice dishes in the regular plans. Its well worth the higher cost for food I can eat and actually enjoy. And I’m losing weight too…what a bargain!
On this diet you will eat mostly prepackaged NutriSystem meals, including entrees, snacks, protein-rich shakes, and desserts. You will also need to supplement with grocery items such as dairy products, fruits, and vegetables. This diet staggers meal times to help prevent hunger, so you end up eating 5 times a day.
Great review! Just finished month 1. Didn’t hit the 13 pound mark, but lost just over 10 pounds so very happy with the program so far. It is hard the first week or two, but it has gotten better the longer I’ve stuck with it. Think I’ll probably do another month or two, and can hopefully drop about 20 pounds when it’s all said and done.
It’s much better to stay on the diet for 8-12 weeks not just to lose all the weight you need to lose but also to educate your body to get used to eating smaller meals, healthier meals and not snack between meals.
Nutrisystem programs, especially the Lean 13 program, are designed to bring clients serious results in a short period of time. If you follow the directions that they provide you on Lean 13, for example, you can expect significant weight loss within the first week of the program. Of course, these are not the limitations of the program. It is important to note that Nutrisystem does not guarantee results of any type, but it does offer money back in certain cases, such as late or broken products. Nutrisystem advertises that its plans are laid forth with advice from medical professionals, and that they have millions of clients with success stories, including celebrities and professional athletes. However, every body type is different. You may experience less or more depending on your natural metabolism, your previous diet and your lifestyle. The majority of your success will come from following directions set forth within the program that you choose.
Let’s clear up a couple of things and make them perfectly clear: The cost of $10 per person per day is not cheap and it’s not less than you were spending before. That equates to $70 per week plus a few more bucks for the veggies you need to buy and the liquids you need to drink.
