“Nutrisystem and migraines”

A diet made of convenience begs the question: Isn’t dieting about getting off the couch and working hard to lose weight? NutriSystem, a diet program based on prepackaged meals that contain all the calories and nutrients you need, seems to subtract the hard work from the weight-loss equation. You’ll still have to hit the grocery store for fruits, veggies and the like — which means you’ll have to resist the lure of the candy aisle — but most of the food-preparation work is done for you.

I have needed to lose weight for quite awhile and am just glad that I’m finally doing something about it. I have lost 14 pounds so far with the Nutrisystem men’s basic plan and I am very satisfied with the program and my progress.

Unlike some weight-loss plans, Weight Watchers counts some calories differently from others. For example, both a cookie and an apple might contain 95 calories. But Weight Watchers assigns two points to the cookie, none to the apple. That’s based on the principle that all calories are not created equal — and that fruit and vegetables are healthier than cakes and cookies.

Protein is a vital element in every cell you have in your body. Your hair and nails are made of proteins and proteins play an essential role in building bones, muscles, and cartilage. Your body uses protein to repair tissues, make digestive enzymes and hormones among other chemicals. Protein is a macro-nutrient, and your body needs a bunch of it to function properly since it is something that you use up and not store.

And finally the Uniquely Yours, at $335 per month, has a much more varied choice of foods including myriad frozen selections. On this plan users can order Spinach Stuffed Shells and Red Velvet Whoopie Pies. The Uniquely Yours plan also has the app feature and access to expert support.

To the poster who cancelled auto delivery and now wants out of paying the extra— fair is fair. NS says very plainly that if you don’t take a second 28 day order, you will be charged for delivery and the discount will be back charged too. Always read the fine print.

I ordered the women’s nutrisystem (GI) via QVC for only $149 +S and H. I have been on it for 4 days and have already lost 3 poubds!!! (It is mostly water weight but a pound is a pound. Drink at 64 ounces of water a day and really get creative with your veggies. Tonight I had the spaghetti with meat sauce and mixed with fresh tomatoes, spaghetti squash and no salt canned diced tomatoes. It was great and very filling…….

The biggest thing to think about is the future, and what is going to happen when you lose the weight. Nutrisystem goes by calories and the glycemic index; if you don’t understand how these two correlate with weight loss, there is a great chance you will gain the weight back.

Nutrisystem will not let you cancel. You are unable to cancel online or by e-mail “to ensure the best service” (though you able to enroll online – apparently service is not an issue if you are enrolling). Every time I try to cancel my auto-enrollment I am put on hold for 20+ minutes. The only way to speak to an actual person is to call to order and those people say they can only process orders and will not help you cancel. I have spoken to several people that have heard me say I cannot get through on the cancellation line and each one has essentially said, “too bad”. They are trained to reject anyone who wants to cancel. I have even had one rep named Cheryl hang up on me!! I am appalled by this poor customer service. DO NOT use Nutrisystem.

It’s still a low-cal diet with its own line of packaged foods, but today’s NutriSystem plan is different from what it was 10, 20, or 30 years ago. These days, the emphasis is on choosing “good carbs” over bad ones, using a ranking system called the glycemic index (G.I.) as a guide. Another change: Rather than driving to weight-loss centers in strip malls for face-to-face advice, dieters chat with counselors and order foods online. The same program is also outlined in the book NutriSystem Nourish: The Revolutionary New Weight-Loss Program (John Wiley & Sons, 2004). Variations are available for women, men, vegetarians, and people with type 2 diabetes.

Bottom line is it’s all on you from start to finish whether or not you lose weight and keep it off. Only you can choose what you eat and drink. Choose wisely and you’ll surprise yourself (in a nice way)!

Nutrisystem does allow low calorie caffeinated beverages while in every phase of the system. However, sweeteners and creams that are usually added to coffee and some other beverages are not recommended. If they must be used, Nutrisystem says, the client should try to look for low calorie version of sweeteners and creamers. This can be difficult, as many of these products use unhealthy substitutes for natural sugar that may be more harmful than the full calorie versions.

Hi Amanda – Thanks for visiting and reading my story. Sounds like you’re well on your way to some pretty great results! Wow – 50 pounds – that’s impressive! Hope it goes as well this time around. Pairing the leafy greens with the lunches and dinners helps make it seem more like a “meal,” so I’ve found that helpful as well. Best of luck!

Hi. I am on my 4th day of the fast 5. I have lost 2 lbs so far, my husband 7lbs. I understand that our metabolisms are different. Before NS I cooked very healthy, clean meals but portion size and eating too few meals a day left us both about 20 lbs over what we wanted to be. We both work out regularly so we felt that learning to eat tegular small meals would be worth a try. Now for my problem. I have been bloated and have horrible gas and sm extremely uncomfortable every hour if the day since starting NS. Anyone have advice for me? I saw a response that said that the person was obviously not used to healthy food. Well that is absolutely not the case with me. Anyone? I don’t want to give up, but this is bad and even affects my sleep as I wake up in the early morning hours with heartburn. Thanks in advance for any thoughts or ideas you may have for me.

A benefit of the Nutrisystem diet plan is that it includes a wide range of different foods, which helps prevent boredom and ensures that customers have access to meals and snacks that they actually like. Breakfasts include options such as oatmeal, cereal, muffins and scrambled eggs, while lunch and dinner options include pasta, lean meats, soup and rice. Customers can also choose snacks and desserts that can include pudding, shakes, dessert bars and soy chips. Most types of fruits and vegetables are acceptable on the program, too.

All Nutrisystem meals are created to count your calories, carbs, and fats in a well-balanced, nutritious meal—albeit some say not always the tastiest. So we’re talking lean protein, high-fiber, low-glycemic with majority preservative-free and all without artificial sweeteners, colors or flavors.
