“My Nutrisystem My Way cookbook”

Nutrisystem offers a number of different plans to choose from, so let’s take a look at each plan, including the price and menu, and then you should have a good idea of which one might work best for you.

As I see it, the Nutrisystem meal plan does one thing really well – it teaches you about proper portion size. Prior to going on Nutrisystem I was consuming over 4,000+ calories, as I can best estimate, on a given day. I was eating the amount of food needed to feed a small Russian army. The problem is, I looked like a small Russian army. 🙂

When I was on the plan my wife and children would eat their food while I ate my Nutrisystem food. I love my wife’s cooking. Her food was hard to resist; however, I stuck to the Nutrisystem plan because their food also tastes good.

One of the main aspects of the Nutrisystem Lean 13 diet program is the meal delivery and prepackaged foods. You have over 150 food different choices, and the primary key to this system is eating six smaller portions throughout the day. This means no large or heavy meals, which can lead to more weight gain. From what we gathered, you can also incorporate some fresh fruits, vegetables, and snacks if desired.

I just finished my 4th day of being on NS and am sending the food back on Monday. The food, in my opinion, is absolutely disgusting. I just had the chicken alfredo, and the closest thing I can liken the smell to is sweaty tennis shoes! It is overly processed, chemical-laden mush, and while I was willing to deal with that to an extent in order to drop some weight, I absolutely can’t muster through one more bite of something I honestly would not feed to my dog. It is a combination of hospital food and military rations. Ugh. And to those who ask “what did I expect”, I would say that I have had plenty of packaged dinners that were at least edible. If you are someone who likes and appreciates good food, then I don’t think this diet is for you. If you’re happy picking up a dried out mess at some big-box-store cafeteria, then you might think this is okay.

Jump-start your weight loss with “Turbo Take Off Week,” during which you’ll eat Nutrisystem entrees, NutriCurb bars, TurboShakes designed to support digestive health and TurboBoosters, which are added to drinks to help boost metabolism. Instead of a TurboShake, men have Nutri-Pro shakes, geared toward increasing energy and supporting lean muscle mass.

First though, about sustainability. While healthy portion-controlled meals combined with exercise is the secret sauce for weight loss, with Nutrisystem doing the work for you, once you’re off the program, can you sustain that? Annals of Internal Medicine says Nutrisystem “show(s) promising weight loss results; however, additional studies evaluating long-term outcomes are needed.” [1]

The Nutrisystem diet plan provides between 1,200 to 1,500 calories per day, which puts you in the range to lose a healthy, sustainable avg 1 to 2 pounds per week. But we do all the counting for you—so you can lose weight without the worry of tracking calories, carbs or points.

NutriSystem’s plan includes users eating up to six nutritional, portion-controlled meals a day. Nutrisystem says it combines the right nutrition mix for each meal, doing all the calorie, carb, protein, and fat counting for you, and delivering those pre-packaged meals to your door. The Nutrisystem cost per day ranges from $10 to $12. [2]

I really liked your story. I am in day 2 of my Turbo Program. My history with NS is in 1987 I had my 3rd child, 12 months and one day after my 2nd. My weight on delivery date was 192#. My normal weight was 135#. It wasn’t till 9 m0nths later when I was bar tending and had to bend down to go under a counter, my pants split. The next day I walked into a NS clinic and began a 14 month 100% commitment, even measuring the vegetable’s, mild ect. I went down to 111#. Lowest in my life, and I felt good. I did feel healthier at 125-135# which I managed to maintain for 20 something years. 10 years ago I started my doctoral grad school program, began a size 4. In 3 years I graduated a size 26. I was not longer referred to as the “sexy momma’ as my younger classmates referred to me as 3 years earlier. I weighed 198# when I graduated. I still weigh 198# 10 years later and feel awful. I too started to eat out and drink wine. I only hope I have the will power to succeed this time. Its so hard when you make a commitment to the program because to me I really feel I can’t go out and enjoy socializing with a soda water. I feel I have to become a hermit and say no to going out with my friends, neighbors and family. I do know that it does work if you remain 100% committed to it, no cheating. But now I am older and I dread the fact it may take me 2-3 years to lose all this fat. But I have only myself to blame. Reading your story has given me some inspiration. I am going to make 10# weight loss increments only as to not get discouraged. Thank you for sharing your story. 🙂

Hi Kris – congrats on signing up – while results will vary for everyone, I truly believe that you will lose a lot of weight if you follow the program – so stick with it, and let us know how it goes. Best of luck with your weight loss- we’re pulling for you :-).

Just reporting in. I’m on day 21. I started July 1. Water is still a issue for me but getting better. I ordered my next order direct from NS and went on the My way plan. I’m still putting in a choice dinner meal on Saturdays. I’m down 6lbs. I’m happy. I trying so hard to stay on with the exercise also. I’m walking each day for 30 minutes. Getting it done early mornings since its hot in Florida. I feel less bloated and know soon, there will be a noticeable difference.

Good for you! I was on this deit back 10 years ago. I am a type 2 diabetic and it helped me get my blood sugars under control. I am ready to get back on this diet and I plan to get back into the 110 readings on my blood sugars. I can’t wait to start. I plan to receive my first month supply on Monday.

No matter which diet plan you choose in the Nutrisystem family, you can expect a certain standard of quality, says the company. The entire Nutrisystem portfolio of meal plans rejects the following unhealthy, fat inducing ingredients:

I started with the turbo charge and continued now for almost 3 weeks. I have only lost 3 lbs. There is no way I’ll lose 10 on the first month. When I emailed a counselor they said that was normal and I was doing well. Big hope very disappointed.

The initial phase of this diet should be avoided. This two-week phase claims to produce a weight loss of eight to 13 pounds with severe dietary restrictions; including fruit, dairy, and starches. Phases like this are usually included so people see quick results, but are limited in time because they are not nutritionally balanced and can’t be followed for a long period. It tends to be more discouraging than motivating to lose quickly and to feel like you are “on a diet.” Long-term weight loss and maintenance takes time, patience, and a lot of hard work. It’s best to begin slowly and to always consume a nutritionally balanced diet.

Also, if you use Nutrisystem for one month, and then decide you want to cancel after that, there are other routes you can go to avoid paying the early termination fee. For example, you can switch your order to just Turbo Shakes for your second month, which costs about $79.

I have purchased this packet for 3 weeks. I have followed it almost to the letter. There have been a few slip ups and I have swapped out a vegetable they recommend for one I love. I have lost 18.5 lbs. That is also buying it, using it for 5 days then my own food for 2 days then back on for the next 5, etc. I am pleased with the food. Very surprised. The only one I could live without and am not too fond of is the chicken alfredo. I do add a tad bit of garlic powder to it and that makes a world of difference. The rest of the food is pretty darn good. I’m so thrilled with my overall outcome of this sample packet, I’m biting the bullet and joining NutriSystem next week. Good luck to everyone. I know what a battle this is and I’m excited about this. Thanks WalMart and NutriSystem for giving us the opportunity to try it before we buy it. 🙂

Convenience is always present in the dietary program of Nutrisystem because its prepackaged diet meals contain healthy and nutritious foods that are containing the proper count of macronutrients and calories that each of their members must eat every day.

That said, I tell everyone that weight watchers is the best program because it truly is. You can eat what you want, when you want, you can “cheat”, they have prepacked meals when you’re low on time, AND you have the option of sitting in weekly support group meetings. The program is cheap, has worked for millions of people and provides structure and flexibility all in the same program.

I spent the next couple of weeks feeling depressed and embarrassed, which I masked by eating and drinking even more. It was the middle of winter, and I was laying on the couch late one night when a Nutrisystem commercial came on TV. Dan Marino, the legendary Miami Dolphins Quarterback, was talking about how he had lost more than 20 pounds on Nutrisystem, and for some reason, his words stuck with me (see the commercial below).

Experts will tell you that the best way to proceed is to find a dietitian nutritionist who can build a diet specifically suited to you and who will help you stick to that diet. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has an online directory that will help you find someone in your city. What you want is a “registered dietitian nutritionist.” This is a certified healthcare specialist, not just someone who decided to hang up a shingle. (The term “nutritionist” is not as rigorously defined).

You’re right about the carbs – they are a part of the Nutrisystem diet, and you will find carbohydrates in most, if not all, of the food they provide. That said, if you follow the plan and eat their food you should lose weight — even with the carbohydrates — and that’s because their meals are portion and calorie controlled. Because you’re already eating a limited number of calories when following the Nutrisystem plan, I don’t think it’s recommended that you skip their meals. Like you have in the past, when I’m not on Nutrisystem or another diet I usually try to avoid carbs (and dairy too for that matter), as I have found that has been the easiest way for me to keep the weight off. When you’re on Nutrisystem though, I wouldn’t worry about them too much – stick with their plan and things should work :-). Thanks for visting, and best of luck with your first month!

As you can see, the Nutrisystem cost varies depending on which plan you prefer and whether or not you’re a man or woman. All in all, this food is not pricey when compared to other diets with prepackages meals, shakes and snacks. However, you might get tired of eating the same processed foods over and over again. On the plus side, with all of the Nutrisystem plans, you can get free shipping and handling. There is also an auto-delivery option that is encouraged.

I’ve been on nutrisystem twice. The first time I lost 35 lbs, then I had a baby, now I’m working on the second time through. The food has greatly improved since last time I was on it. I also tried the vegetarian route but got quite bored with it since there isn’t much variety yet and it also gave me stomach cramps. Since I started the regular womens program a week ago along with walking at least a half hour every day and i have already lost 5 lbs!

The Nutrisystem plan does work though. When I was using the plan I lost about fifteen pounds. The plan was also very easy to follow. I did not have to weigh out food. I did not have to count calories. I did not have to figure out which foods to eat to lose weight. I just had to follow the instructions that came with the plan and eat the food that the plan provided me with.
