The food is decent. I have stayed away from anything with meat in it because I just didn’t like them. I returned 14 dinners and nutrisystem sent me new ones before I even got a chain to mail my dinners back. I did need to pay the shipping costs but it wasn’t too bad. I am a lot happier eating the non meat foods. Love the little pizzas!! Desserts are great. The candy bars taste like you’re actually eating a snickers. Drink about 2 glasses or water before your meal and during the day and you won’t be hungry. I have lost 7 in three weeks. I will be starting my next month next week.
I rated the dishes on a 1-10 scale. Most of them got a 6, meaning it’s ok but nothing to get enthusiastic about. Two of their offerings rated a 1. They both contained cheese. One was a “loaded baked potato” and the other was some sort of mac and cheese thing. As I said, I rated them a 1, the lowest possible rating, because they disgusted me and I threw them away. I like mac and cheese, but their “white cheddar mac and cheese” disgusted me.
The Nutrisystem program can also be aligned with DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet recommendations. According to Mayo Clinic, “The DASH diet is rich in grains, fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy products. It limits total fat, saturated fat and cholesterol, and provides plenty of fiber, potassium, calcium and magnesium. The DASH diet also limits sodium to between 1,500 and 2,300 milligrams a day.”
I started on nutrisystem 2 weeks ago and I am so happy with the program. I’m pretty disturbed that there are some people that post comments telling others not to try it!! What do you have to lose?? This is the first time in my life I have been able to lose weight, while eating and being usually satisfied.
Processed Meals: The Basic and Core plans include a percentage of processed meals and this doesn’t suit every taste. Some prefer the taste of home cooked meals and find it harder to adjust to meals that come in packets. The alternative is to spend a little more on a Uniquely Yours plan and get fresh frozen meals that taste closer to the home cooked kind.
The Nutrisystem men’s basic plan is very convenient to use too. I take my frozen lunch with me to work and I can get more work done while losing weight! The plan is also very simple to follow, just follow their instructions. Don’t deviate by eating snickers bars, okay?! Stay away from those evil vending machines too! If you drink coffee, stop using creamer as I discovered I was drinking an extra 300 calories a day in coffee creamer!
Thank you for the feedback and you are certainly entitled to sharing your experience. What I can offer is that the management team at Nutrisystem is highly qualified and competent, as evidenced by 17 consecutive quarters of year-over-year top line growth. Additionally, in a recent staff engagement survey completed in the Fall, over 80% of staff have a highly favorable view of the organization. This includes high belief in the future of the company, high confidence in the overall effectiveness of their department leader, & high trust of senior leaders to demonstrate integrity. I sincerely hope that you will find an organization that meets both your personal and professional goals in the future…. MoreLess
Lastly, how does my review look? Does it get you wanting to think for yourself about your future health and how this can play a major part in improving it? I really hope so. When you come to a decision that you decide for yourself and not have some salesman decide for you, then the satisfaction of knowing that you made it is all yours!
But I’m pretty sure the many thousands of satisfied customers that do/did like the food would also NOT be happy “picking up a dried out mess at some big-box-store cafeteria” as you so graphically described!
I’ve been on for 5 days, and I’m finding I am also gaining weight. Is this normal? I tend to eat healthier than most but needed some improvement. I was surprised to see how much fat there was in some of the foods. I’m wondering if that is it since I’m not used to eating so much fat.
I was on NS for 3 months. I lost 44lbs. What I found was to lose it, you did have to walk and drink a bunch of water. The water helps fill you up and you don’t eat as much. I would eat a small salad with diet dressing with meals, that also helped. I had to stop it because I could not afford it any longer, but ready to do it again.
Many people commented on how much they enjoyed the wide range of food and drinks that are available from Nutrisystem. Our research verified this feedback, we can confidently say that Nutrisystem has one of the largest menus out of any diet plan we have come across.
I’ve heard other people complain about accidentally over billing or a missing food item from a shipment, but I can not complain about the Nutrisystem men’s basic plan. I have been using Nutrisystem’s plan for about two months now. I thought for sure when I started the plan that I would probably have at least one thing to complain about it; however, I was wrong. Nutrisystem truly is a great plan. Any problems that you may read about online are obviously one off items and not a consistent trend.
It’s basically 30 cans of Chef Boyardee and Campbell’s soup in NutriSystem packaging. Super tiny portions of processed food,so if you’re an active person you really have to add additional foods to maintain a healthy caloric intake.
Hi Troy – Sorry to hear that that was your experience. In all honesty, I have hadn’t any problems when dealing with their customer service, and everyone has been friendly and helpful. It was actually a customer service rep who told me I could switch from the meal delivery to just the Turbo Shakes after my first month on the program to lock in the auto-delivery savings without having to commit to another month of food. In any case, I hope you are able to get things resolved!
I have been on the program for a little over a month. Have already seen results. The food is absolutely delicious and I love the variety. Have already had to ask a question and received a prompt and courteous answer. I am a very satisfied customer and will recommend the program.
I have been on Ntrisystem now for 11 days. The first week I was hungry but I expected that. If you expect to lose weight you will have to cut down the number of calories you consume. I know I was consuming way to many.
NutriSystem needs to stop giving excuses and start sending people what they paid for. Until then, I encourage readers to follow my counselor’s advice and make NutriSystem send them all the food they actually requested.
My favorite food is the cheese ravioli and the meatloaf with the mashed potatoes. I feel full when I’m done eating, and I get the energy I need to exercise and go about my daily business. So far I have lost 31 pounds and still counting.
Hi, my name is Lisa. I’m 47 years old and live in the beautiful state of North Carolina. I am married and have one daughter. I work full time as an office manager. I used to be overweight and have recently overcome it with the help of Nutrisystem. I’m so excited how well Nutrisystem works that I want to share it with everyone. This is my own personal experience on how Nutrisystem worked for me. It’s my review of Nutrisystem, and I believe you will find it one of the most interesting Nutrisystem reviews you will ever read. Does Nutrisystem work for everyone? We are all different and not everyone will have the same results. I hope that my story might help someone else suffering from weight issues.
Users have praised its ability to target women’s needs for weight loss, and the ease of use which can reduce any complications that can happen. There are simplified explanations offered as to what is needed for one to really lose weight. Their pre-packaged foods are also often described as being satisfying, and easy to modify to combine home cooked meals. See what the NutriSystem For women plan has to offer by visiting the link Below.
I got to hand it to you, you’re going at this the right way. As long as the exercises you’re doing now are not causing you to feel dizzy and your doctor is on board with what you’re doing, I say keep it up and gradually increase the amount you do.
Hi Krystal – thanks for visiting the site, and taking the time to read my review and watch the videos. Always happy to hear that it helped! Best of luck with your first month – let us know how it goes 🙂
The story I was covering kept me in Virginia so late, I had to stay an extra day. I planned accordingly, but with one breakfast already down the hatch and no extra helpings, the food was running low. I spread it out as much as possible and, starving again, made the long trek back, fighting the nagging hunger with one last NutriSystem dessert as I drove through fast-food nation.
I’d say 95% of the NS foods taste great. The other 5% are just not my thing (I don’t like mushrooms or eggs). Luckily though, Nutrisystem offers many different foods to choose from. Nutrisystem is also adding new food items to the menu all of the time. Always good to keep the variety up. The Nutrisystem plans foods are also healthy.
Since the program is primarily focused on diet, the website offers few fitness features. There is an exercise log where you can track your daily physical activity, though. We particularly like that the log displays how many calories you burned when you input an exercise or activity. You can access this journal either through the Nutrisystem website or via the mobile app, which is convenient for logging exercise activity while you’re out. You will have to find the motivation to work out on your own because, other than a few tips, there isn’t any real exercise program with this service, such as suggested exercises for your body type, workout videos or tutorials, which you’d find with higher-ranked weight loss plans like Diet.com.
My roommates and I just started Nutrisystem. I want to lose 20 lbs. They need to lose 40. I’d just crossed the threshold into overweight, and wanted to get back down to where my pants fit instead of going out and buying a new wardrobe (Its actually cheaper to do Nutrisystem). We just finished the Fast5. My roommates dropped 2.5 pounds after 3 days. I actually gained a pound after three days (but I’m blaming hormones and mother nature). But, sure enough, after the week was over I’d lost 6 pounds! You have to fill in the gaps between meals with healthy vegetable snacks, and you have to get used to being hungry. Nutrisystem is cutting down the big portioned meals we are all used to, so your stomach at first is really confused and wanting to be full. It takes will power not to eat when you are feeling hungry, but if you are, just snack on something like carrots. It really gets you used to eating smaller meals, and eating more vegetables. We’ve also started going to the gym 2-3 times a week.

I had a similar experience. After just 1 week on the plan I was unable to move. I had incredible pain on the left side of my abdomen. For almost a month I could not touch or lay on my left side–stomach so sore and very bloated. I am still not fully recovered. I have researched the ingredients in Nutrisystem’s food and it would appear that Resistant Maltodextrin is the cause of my pain.
I wish I could say the food is good, like they do on television, but I have to say, the food, well, tastes like any food you buy in a box that has to be microwaved, except you get a lot less of it to eat. I am used to home cooked food. This stuff makes me crave home cooked food and I know that is not good. I got a hamburger patty too, and I am reluctant to bother with it. I certainly don’t relish the idea of soaking my burger first before I eat it. Yuck. The commercials all say the food is great and you’re never hungry, that simply isn’t true. Getting used to tiny portions of processed food is never going to be easy..what makes it hard for me is I have a family that I have to cook for. I am still searching for the one entree for either lunch or dinner that I love. None of the breakfast options are really that great, instant oatmeal, little bowls of cereal, breakfast bars..nothing special. Sigh…but I’ll eat it because I paid for it, will I buy more? Hmm…I am pondering the idea of simply going with portion control, because If I ate my own food in these small amounts, I’d still lose weight. Especially now that I have the cookbook/guide that goes with this plan.
Meanwhile, a study from Johns Hopkins has reported that “Other popular programs, such as NutriSystem, show promising weight-loss results, but additional studies evaluating long-term outcomes are needed.”
As of right now I am still on the fence about committing to NS auto ship plan and the cost. I know I would like to do it and may have to order the Core plan where I can pick and choose the food I get (I think)but would be worth the extra cost.
I just started this diet 1 week ago. I was on the Medi-Fast Diet and they give you a book on the program. It contained DIRECTIONS so you don’t have to call a counselor all the time. There were instructions on how to substitute food, exercise and how to go off the diet successfully. I decided to try Nutrisystem as I got tired of the same Medi-Fast food. Nutrisystem needs to do the same. Give us a book of instructions!. I still don’t understand the program after many calls to a counselor. So far I have only gained weight. I’ll stay on it for awhile and if I don’t loose weight I’ll go back on Medi-fast where I lost 54 lbs.
Nutrisystem is adamant that clients must follow the meal plan closely in order to get the results that are promised. This includes eating all the food in the plan even if the client is not hungry. The entire meal must be consumed in order to give the body the nutrients that it needs for proper and healthy weight loss. Failure to eat everything may result in serious health problems, admits the company. It should be noted that Nutrisystem does offer advice from counselors for people who want to change their meal plans. The company wants to change the entire program holistically – meaning that the change will affect the entire meal schedule, not just one meal.
Depends. Can you afford it to try it? Does the idea of having the work done for you sound appealing? My feeling is if you have the disposable income, either live alone or don’t have to feed a brood, and are okay with not eating out often, go for it. It’s pretty likely you’ll lose some weight, but will it come back when the FedEx person stops ringing the bell?
