Many people have a “been there, done that” attitude when it comes to Weight Watchers. They have tried it, may have had some success, may have even gone back a couple of times, but end up feeling that it can’t help them any longer. The group leaders at the meetings are not trained experts; they are former members who have had success with Weight Watchers. When someone is not having success the options for what to do can be greatly limited by the lack of experience and knowledge of the leader. There is a strong emphasis on weighing in each week. Many people have a difficult time attending a meeting when they are not having success. However, most people will not lose weight every single week, so expecting to do so is a recipe for failure. The time when people need the support the most is when they are not losing, but most meetings are not set to address this.
The Flex Meals and eating guides are also very helpful when you have those lunches or dinners that you cannot avoid going to. I also must admit that I allow myself one cheat meal a week as well. Maybe if I was really strict, then I would have lost more weight. 11lbs in a month still makes me happy. I still have 30lbs to go to hit my goal weight, but I’m going strong and confident that I can do it because the plan’s flexibility makes is easy to stick to.
Research suggests that eating foods with a low-glycemic index can help you feel full longer. Moreover, researchers have found that when meal replacements are part of an overall weight management plan, participants have been successful in losing weight and keeping it off. Studies have also shown, though, that the best diets are the ones that you can stick with over the long term, but NutriSystem is designed to be used for a short period of time.
There are also real testimonials offered on their official website from people who ended up noticing great changes. Before and after photos showcase people slimming down. One customer lost 249 pounds, another 90 pounds, and the 3rd person lost 22 total pounds.
Bloating is a sign and symptom of gas in the stomach or GI tract. Certain foods or health problems like constipation may cause it. Bacteria and certain foods like lactose can cause it. Learn the symptoms and causes of bloating to feel more healthy.
It’s a shame the food can’t taste better, especially since it’s so expensive. Overall, though, the plan seems nutritionally sound, albeit a bit low in calories to be realistic for many dieters. And once the diet is over, it’s easy for the weight to come back.
Lifestyle modification helps in migraine management. Many people who suffer from migraines get relief from their condition by keeping a headache diary, identifying and avoiding triggers, and taking appropriate medication.
I exercise 4 days a week and eat all my meals planned by the meal planner. The plan helps me when and if I go out to eat, and since I don’t have anything to count, I feel more comfortable. I have a very healthy diet now, and try to get my friends who need to lose weight to join too. There are so many people I think that could benefit from using the Nutrisystem meal plans, and it is so easy there’s no way to mess up.
Hey Liz, apologies for not approving this right away when it came in. I thought I had done, but technology got the better of me this time! Anyway, it’s a great comment and really motivating for anyone else who is in the early stages of this diet. Congrats on losing 14 pounds so far!
“Nutrisystem is a low-calorie weight-loss program that offers balanced, easy-to-prepare meals, and controls calories by making the meal portions small,” explains dietitian Molly Kimball, RD, a sports and lifestyle nutritionist and program coordinator at the Ochsner Health System’s Elmwood Fitness Center in New Orleans.
Eat six meals a day and still lose weight? Medifast calls it its “5 & 1 Plan.” If you eat five Medifast meal replacements and one meal that you provide, Medifast says can lose 2-5 pounds during the first 2 weeks of the plan. People typically lose 1-2 pounds per week after that.
Processed Meals: The Basic and Core plans include a percentage of processed meals and this doesn’t suit every taste. Some prefer the taste of home cooked meals and find it harder to adjust to meals that come in packets. The alternative is to spend a little more on a Uniquely Yours plan and get fresh frozen meals that taste closer to the home cooked kind.
Does it work? There’s plenty of research showing that following a diet of 1,200 to 1,500 calories a day, such as Nutrisystem, can cause weight loss. For example, a study by the Obesity Research Center at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital in New York found that postmenopausal women who followed a 1,200-calorie plan for 16 weeks lost an average of 21 pounds.
I don’t know if you even read this anymore but I noticed you were a PD officer that works nights. I was wondering how you work the nutrisystem into your schedule. I work 10p-8am Thur thru Sun with Mon-Wed off. Thank you in advance if you or anyone can provide any assistance.
I did not lose much weight on Nutrisystem- Only 5 lbs in 3 weeks. Customer service is HORRIBLE!!! They wanted to charge me $89.99 to cancel! Ridiculous!!!!! I will never go back to them no matter how desperate I get.
I am deciding whether to go on Nutri system or not. I am a kidney transplant patient and am fed up with my weight. Have tried lots of ways to lose weight but this one sounds good. Can I get some feedback on this.
By the 3rd month, I had lost even more weight and people were starting to notice. I was getting a lot of compliments. I was looking through some old pictures to compare with my newest pictures so I could make my first “reveal” photo.” Just wow”!
I am on day 4 of the 5 day plan, and I have followed the plan to a tee. The first day was the hardest (very hungry in the afternoon), but I have since been fine. The program works by giving you a base meal, and you add additional items. Typically, you add in 2 proteins, 3 veggies, and 2 carbs a day. So here is an example of my day: Breakfast: provided meal and Greek yogurt – protein #1 Snack: an apple – carb #1 Lunch: provided meal with a salad containing chicken or hard boiled egg, mushrooms, tomatoes, and a light vinaigrette dressing – veggie #1 and protein #2, Snack: carrots and celery – veggie #2, Dinner: provided dinner, and add canned pineapple and steamed broccoli – carb #2 and veggie #3 There is also a dessert, which I have only eaten once because I haven’t been hungry after dinner and I forget about it. Is the food good? Some is and some isn’t. It’s a diet! Last I checked, diet food is a always a compromise. I was not a big fan of the lasagna, but I could eat it. The beef and potatoes is gross, but I added S&P, and it was tolerable. I thought the pizza was pretty good for microwaved pizza. The rest of the meals so far are fine. Since I add a salad with chicken or an egg, I don’t miss a “meal” when the provided lunch is a meal bar. And I’m not hungry! I was SURE I was going to be starving on this plan. I’m not. I just picked up another 5 day pack to continue with the plan for another few days before deciding whether to sign up for the regular Nutrisystem plan. I am leaning towards doing it. I’ve lost 2 lbs. in 3 days, and my weight doesn’t typically fluctuate, so I know it is real weight loss. For ease of use compared to other diets I’ve done, this is definitely worth it. If I could spend hours planning and prepping my own food, I’d skip this. But even with the prep time needed for the food like chopping veggies, cooking chicken/eggs, etc., it is worth it for me to use the plan. I’d recommend trying it. The worst you could lose is the money spent on the meal plan. Or, you might lose some weight!
I have lost 60 lbs. With this program. Love it. No its not the best tasting but OK. Gourmet food got me fat to begin with. I am very pleased with this program. It has taught me the meaning of a serving size. The first week was really hard but after that it was piece of cake. I would recommend this program highly. I feel great!!!!
NS really works i have been using it for about 2 weeks and i lost 6 pounds but what i didn’t like is how the food tasted. im not saying that there bad but some foods were good and some were really good.also with nutri system you hav to excerise regullary while eating the foods
Costs: Prices vary, but a 4-week supply of meal replacements will cost at least $300 plus shipping. A seven-pack of any meal replacement (smoothies, oatmeal bars, shakes, or other foods) costs $16.95.
The number of calories varies based on how long you’ve been a part of the program and which diet you choose. Typically, men consume 1,500 calories a day while women consume 1,200 per day on the program after the first week. It’s a low-glycemic program that helps you achieve slow and even weight loss.
I wish I could say all the nice things I am reading. I’ve been on the program for 2 weeks now and have not lost a pound! I followed the first week strictly and was expecting some great results and I only lost 2 pounds. The first week was difficult but I stuck it through. I was disappointed but still encourage. After my second, when I started eating more calories, and working out even more, I gained the 2lbs right back! Very discourage at the moment but I am going to stick with the for the rest of the month. Although I am not losing weight, I am loving my new eating habits. I eat at least 4cups of veggies a day, I stopped eating candies and drinking soda. I used to eat peanut M&Ms everyday and now I don’t even pass by the vending machine. lol I was told by a counselor to increase my calories intake because I workout a lot so hopefully, week 3 and 4 give me some happy results
If you don’t cook and if you normally eat a lot of processed foods, this may be for you. And if you want to loose substantial weight. Tried it for month, the food was not pleasing to taste, too high in sodium and calories for the portion size. I can make better tasting, healthier food for less sodium and larger portion size on my own. Yuck, in my opinion. Had 20 pounds to lose, didn’t lose much at all to make it (the cost, the lack of enjoyment of food, etc) worth it.
Great review! Just finished month 1. Didn’t hit the 13 pound mark, but lost just over 10 pounds so very happy with the program so far. It is hard the first week or two, but it has gotten better the longer I’ve stuck with it. Think I’ll probably do another month or two, and can hopefully drop about 20 pounds when it’s all said and done.
Known also as Nutrisystem D, this plan is geared toward people who suffer from diabetes. The daily and monthly price of this plan varies depending on the exact one that you choose. Basically, all of the plans that are highlighted above are available in diabetic friendly versions. Therefore, there’s a D Basic Plan, a D Core Plan and a D Uniquely Yours Plan.
