Distribution of packaged diet food to 857 franchises of bankrupt Nutri-System was guaranteed Wednesday in a settlement reported to a bankruptcy judge. Michael Heisley, a Chicago businessman who has been running the company, said he assured franchise owners who were experiencing difficulty replenishing supplies. “It means that Nutri-System customers will be able to get the food items they want,” Heisley said after his lawyer reported the agreement to U.S. Bankruptcy Judge David Scholl.

If you are unsatisfied with your plan, send the remaining food back within 14 days of receipt for a full refund–you are responsible for return shipping charges, however. Only one money-back guarantee is available per customer. This is a bit short-sighted, as you are basically out of luck if you try a new meal and don’t like it.

Okay, well first off NO ONE should go down to 1,000 calories a day. I’m all for losing weight, but I count 1,200 (net after any exercise) as the bare minimum for health. That’s how much a 160 lb person burns lying in bed all day. Much below that — assuming you weigh more than 110ish lbs — and your body goes into starvation mode.

I started the program and the first 5 days I lost 7.4 lbs…(which I was so very happy and surprised)..continued on the plan for the 6th day with no cheating at all….and drank all the water in fact I drink 10 glasses of water a day (through out the plan since I started it) but to my surprise on the 7th day when I stepped on the scale that morning I had gained .7 oz…this was a big let down after seeing the weight loss of 7.4 oz…just a little disappointed….wanted to a least see a little weight loss..but to gain was hard to see..after I had worked so hard…what could be the problem?..Just discouraged….but I am continuing on the plan…

As with the diabetes plans, the vegetarian plans are offered in Basic, Core and Uniquely Yours versions. Unfortunately, there isn’t anything extra added for vegetarians. One of my complaints, one of the big negatives about Nutrisystem, is that they are extremely light on the vegetables. One of their stuffed meals has some pieces of broccoli in it. Hooray! Yay! An actual veggie. If you are going to put “Nutri” in your name, it hints to you that there is nutritious food here. That means veggies, doesn’t it? Good luck with that. I contacted the company and told them they need to offer more veggies, and the reply was that you have to buy that on your own.

Not sure the specs are the same (ie calories and protein) but the Weightwatchers chicken alfredo – especially if you add some frozen broccoli – is excellent. I made the mistake of ordering Core too – that dry food stuff is barely even food. I’ve made it easy by just adding a two-ingredient salad (with one Tablespoon low cal dressing) every lunch and at least one large serving of (usually frozen) veggies every dinner. That will even get you thru Turbo Takeoff week. I found I need to supplement (cheat) with apples, low fat cheese sticks, deli meat etc. every once in a while or I start to feel sick. I plan to stop using NS foods (replacing quick meal plans with other decent tasting frozen low fat meals from the store) but keep up the salad and veggies habit. Weighing yourself weekly for life is just about the only way to stay on track 🙁

There’s the trade off in taste vs calories unless you really know what you’re doing. But hey, if anyone is really serious about their diet, it’s no great hardship to take an evening course in nutrition and learn how to make great tasting meals that are healthy and low in calories! The only drawback is of course the convenience of a diet like Nutrisystem cannot be emulated when you have to formulate/prepare/cook meals yourself!

Hey Tara, sorry it didn’t work out for you. Actually, 5lbs in 3 weeks is pretty good considering experts agree the safe and preferred rate of weight loss is 1-2lbs per week. You were well within that, but I guess you were expecting more. We all have different metabolisms and so lose weight at different rates so don’t feel bad.

Of the 118 NutriSystem complaints ConsumerAffairs.com has received, almost all describe horrific foods that not even a dog would eat. While I understand that I’m not a picky eater, I would have to say that most of those complaints are gross exaggerations.

Although I’m pretty worried about the disgusting smell, taste and texture of the foods that hundreds have complained to ConsumerAffairs.com about, I think what most concerns me is the huge calorie deficit.   1. I liked the ease of the meals and not having to go to the grocery store which is a land mine of pizza, ice cream, danish, etc. I’m trying to figure out how to order without the chocolate items. I know that on QVC I can order just lunches, dinners or breakfasts without other meals.
    Yes, I’m suffering the early-diet gas attacks that seems to be a common factor with Nutrisystem. I did back in the 90s too. I was told back then it was because my body was tuned to metabolize high fat/high carb and that it would go away in a few days as my body adjusted to the diet. She was right, but it was more like two weeks.
    At first I thought, “This will be easy. I can just throw some of these pre-packaged meals in my suitcase.” But then the reality of hauling all these extra helpings, most of which are perishable, set in.
